The earliest article published by Deng Xiaoping in People’s Daily was "The Founding of the People’s Republic of China in Southwest China" in the 6th edition of People’s Daily on October 1st, 1950. This article mainly summarizes the achievements of Deng Xiaoping’s liberation and work in the southwest after founding ceremony in 1949, and the important problems he found. In summing up the problems, Deng Xiaoping gave top priority to financial problems and industrial management.

After the reform and opening up, Deng Xiaoping’s works on economic development have become more abundant. In the opening speech of the 12th National Congress of the Communist Party of China published in People’s Daily in 1982, Deng Xiaoping pointed out that stepping up socialist modernization, striving for the reunification of the motherland, including Taiwan Province, opposing hegemonism and safeguarding world peace were the three major tasks of our people in the 1980s. Deng Xiaoping’s last signed article published in People’s Daily was compiled from his "Southern Talk" in 1992, mainly about economic construction and reform and opening up. In this famous speech, a series of well-known conclusions appeared.
