Cctv news The Criminal Police Detachment of Nantong Public Security Bureau is named and commended by the State Council as a "Special Combat Criminal Police Team". At the age of 42, Jia Dongtao, who is one of the few people in China who can read "bone language" and is honored as a first-class individual by the Ministry of Public Security, is undoubtedly a bright star in this group.
Jia Dongtao concentrates on his work in the DNA laboratory.
I have been fascinated by "corpse language" since I conquered the case of Chen Gu for 4 years.
"He has explained the process of killing his wife four years ago. Can you be sure that he is the murderer?" In 2004, 30-year-old Jia Dongtao encountered such a question.
"you can’t! Unless it passes the DNA test, it proves that the skeleton that has been buried for 4 years and has been blackened is his wife. " Jia Dongtao solemnly answered.
At the beginning of February, 2004, the police of Jiaoxie Police Station in Hai ‘an County, Nantong City learned that Li, the wife of Chen Hongxing in Lainan Village of this town, suddenly disappeared in the Spring Festival of 2000 and was suspected to have been killed. The police conducted a lie detector test on Chen Hongxing, and found that Chen was suspected of committing a major crime, and immediately tried Chen Hongxing. Chen’s psychological defense line collapsed and explained the process of killing his wife.
According to Chen’s account, the police dug up a pile of blackened bones beside a plane tree in his yard. To determine that Chen Hongxing is the murderer, it is necessary to prove that the excavated remains belong to Li. Because the bones have been buried underground for too long, it is quite difficult to extract and test DNA. The bones were sent to an authoritative organization in Beijing for mitochondrial sequencing, but there was no result for two months. After the case was transferred to the procuratorate, it was returned for supplementary investigation. The case has reached a deadlock. Finally, this "hard-to-chew" bone was sent to Jia Dongtao, the head of the DNA laboratory of the criminal police detachment of Nantong Public Security Bureau at that time.
The inspection failed again and again, and the plan was adjusted again and again. Jia Dongtao never gave up in the room that was both a laboratory and a temporary bedroom. He searched the Internet for an 18-year-old case of a traffic accident in the United States, and found two important documents: an improved method for extracting DNA from bones and a method for extracting DNA from paraffin-embedded tissues. Jia Dongtao combined the advantages of the two methods and carefully designed the inspection scheme. Twenty days later, the genotypes of 16 loci in the bones were finally successfully amplified. The genotype of the bones and Li’s parents’ blood samples conforms to the parent-child relationship. The case was successfully prosecuted and tried, and Chen Hongxing was brought to justice.
That is, this appraisal, Jia Dongtao began to fall in love with the strange "bone language." He supplemented the research results of this case, wrote a paper and published it in China Forensic Medicine, which caused a sensation. Colleagues believe that Jia Dongtao initiated the method of DNA detection and identification of old bones and ABO genotype, and with this identification method, the most critical and difficult DNA detection neglected in She Xianglin case and Zhao Zuohai case will no longer be a problem.
Subsequently, Jia Dongtao took the lead in the task of "Research on DNA Extraction Methods of Old Bones", which took four years to complete. Using this method, the success rate of old bones and teeth inspection has increased to over 95%. In 2009, this subject won the second prize of scientific and technological progress of the Ministry of Public Security and the first prize of scientific and technological progress of the Jiangsu Provincial Public Security Department.
Jia Dongtao studied and exchanged bone language identification with his colleagues.
As a well-known DNA testing expert in China, Jia Dongtao not only completes the inspection and appraisal of major local difficult cases, but also accepts dozens of physical evidence tests of difficult cases all over the country every year. In recent seven years, Jia Dongtao has helped public security organs in Beijing, Guangdong, Jilin and other provinces and cities to solve the problem of identifying the source of more than 400 old bones, some of which have been buried for more than 50 years. Nantong public security DNA laboratory has also become a golden signboard in the field of criminal technology in China.
Jia Dongtao’s scientific research results have effectively solved many difficult problems in the application of DNA testing, which has high market value, and he has promoted them to his peers all over the country without reservation and free of charge in the name of the scientific research team. It has trained a group of experts and experts for Hunan, Jiangxi, Gansu, Guizhou, Guangxi, Anhui, Xinjiang and other places.
Taking the lead in tackling key problems has been recognized by 68 economic organizations around the world.
After graduating from West China University of Medical Sciences in 1998, Jia Dongtao was assigned to work in the criminal police detachment of Nantong Public Security Bureau. In August 2001, Nantong Public Security Bureau decided to establish a DNA laboratory. Jia Dongtao, who was only 27 years old and had profound medical knowledge, was entrusted with a heavy responsibility.
During that time, Jia Dongtao turned the DNA lab into a studio and bedroom. DNA laboratory instruments are all imported equipment. He studied word for word with the operating instructions in English in one hand and the English-Chinese dictionary in the other. When fresh blood was needed for routine blood type test, it was difficult to find new blood at midnight. He took his own blood for test more than 30 times.
With this strength and tenacity, Jia Dongtao "polished" the brand of DNA laboratory of Nantong Public Security Bureau.
In September, 2010, with the efforts of Jia Dongtao’s team, 14 types of testing objects and 30 projects applied for recognition by the Institute of Criminal Science and Technology of Nantong Public Security Bureau successfully passed the on-site evaluation of the national expert group, which indicates that the appraisal documents issued by Nantong Criminal Investigation will be recognized by 68 economies around the world, greatly improving the management level and social credibility of Nantong criminal science and technology. In 2015, the DNA laboratory of Nantong Public Security Bureau was rated as a national key laboratory and a national first-class DNA laboratory by the Ministry of Public Security.
Since his work, Jia Dongtao has participated in more than 1,000 investigations and DNA tests of major and difficult criminal cases such as murder, explosion and robbery, provided more than 1,200 technical analysis opinions, and directly cracked more than 7,000 criminal cases by using DNA testing techniques. No mistakes were made in the inspection and appraisal opinions, all of which were adopted by the court as trial evidence.

Because of his outstanding work achievements, Jia Dongtao was honored as a first-class individual by the Ministry of Public Security, and was successively awarded as a young talent of criminal science and technology of public security organs in China, an advanced individual in criminal science and technology of public security in Jiangsu Province, and an expert in the inspection of criminal evidence in Jiangsu Province.
The famous Jia Dongtao’s unique DNA identification technology has attracted the attention of many large international companies, scrambling to dig him up, but he is unmoved. "When the case was solved in my hands, all the hard work of Hwa-Sung Do was a great joy. This joy is the best reward for a public security forensic doctor and the most proud place to be a criminal police!" (Reporter Kong Hua)
