Xia Ji plays, Zhazidong sacrifices the eldest son of martyr Xia Huilu. In 1948, Xia Huilu was arrested by Kuomintang agents the night before liberation for establishing peasant armed forces in eastern Sichuan and preparing to launch an uprising.
Xia Jiyan, son of Xia Huilu Martyr:(The spy said) Is Xia Huilu at home? Come with us. We were scared to death.
This is the last time Xia Jiyan saw his father. Since then, Xia Jiyan has started a hard life with his sick mother Tang Ruiqiong, sister and brother.
Xia Jiyan, son of Xia Huilu Martyr:When I was six or seven years old, I took a stool to cook medicine for my mother. I didn’t want to be a soldier, and this family couldn’t leave until my mother gave me a note.
The note said, "Tang Ruiqiong, you should be strong, take good care of your three children, and tell the distant comrades to leave quickly. I didn’t say anything in prison, so I may not be able to do it." Mother gave Xia Ji the last note his father gave home, telling him to be a soldier and continue his father’s way.
In 1965, 19-year-old Xia Jiyan entered the military camp. Five years later, he transferred to Shengli Oilfield and became an oil worker.
Xia Jiyan, son of Xia Huilu Martyr:It’s a great honor to be an oil worker for fifty years. I’ve done all the work in the dispatching room and pliers riveting welding.
After retirement, Xia Jiyan set up the Hongyan Soul Exhibition Hall in his own community with self-raised funds, and began his tour of Hongyan Spirit. In order to save money, he often copied revolutionary stories for decorating exhibition halls and giving lectures. Since retirement, Xia Jiyan has held nearly 600 lectures on Hongyan spirit. He has been in the army, factories, mines, communities and schools. From the story of radish head to "eight articles in prison", his preaching report is vivid and comprehensive, which is very popular with everyone.
Xia Jiyan, son of Xia Huilu Martyr:Those who sell vegetables, meat and fruit (told me), Xia Lao, don’t give me money. Why? My children came back and said that your story about radish head was very touching, and they loved it.
